NEMT/Transportation Driver

At Southwest Arkansas Development Council, the job of transporting Medicaid Clients to and from medical facilities within the state of Arkansas or driving Seniors to our Senior Adult Centers for various activities is a highly critical position. Applicants who apply for the Non-Emergency Medicaid Transportation (NEMT)/ Senior Transportation Driver position may be utilized in one or both capacities within our Agency. Upon hire, the driver will interact with the Center Director at the respective county to which they are assigned.

General Summary: Works under the direct supervision of the center director, and provide transportation services to NEMT beneficiaries and Agency clients to appointments in and out of area with start and ending time being determined by the client schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide transportation services to NEMT and Agency clients
  2. Must carry their government issued drivers license at all times
  3. Wear agency issued name tag at all times, neat and clean in appearance
  4. Assist passengers on and off the vehicle and to and from the main door of the facility
  5. Assist clients with being seated and fastening seatbelts
  6. Assist wheelchair passengers on and off using lift or ramp, and properly securing tie downs
  7. Driver must identify and announce their presence at the entrance of the building of the pickup location if the passenger is not waiting at the door
  8. Driver must provide oral directions and instructions to passengers regarding their trip
  9. Driver must keep and complete monthly logs, daily maintenance log, ability to identify vehicle problems
  10. Driver must keep vehicle interior and exterior clean at all times
  11. Driver must assist with stowing mobility aid and folding their wheelchair
  12. Driver will not accept gifts or tips from passengers
  13. Driver will not smoke or use profanity in presence of clients
  14. Drivers will follow all traffic laws including non use of cell phone while driving
  15. Drivers will make preparation for next day trip by making contact with client the day before to confirm their pickup time or a change in time in case of cancellation or additional client


Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Must pass Criminal/FBI check and clean Motor vehicle record 
  2. Must pass drug pre-employment and random drug test 
  3. General record keeping  
  4. Working knowledge of street and county roads
  5. Must be able to travel long distance
  6. Must be able to read and write with basic math skills


Education and Experience:  High school education or equivalent

Physical Requirements: Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting, pulling and pushing.
